I loved reading through your history of Christian music. I know it's hard to include everyone, but you really should include at least a mention of Daniel Amos since they were one of the biggest Christian bands of the 70's and one of the weirdest bands period of the 1980's haha. I would consider them the very first alternative band in Christian music, and it seems like that deserves a mention. Take care and thanks for the great articles!

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, Daniel Amos was "alternative," when "alternative wasn't cool."

That said, though I did listen to some of their LPs, and some of their spinoff groups's LPs, I don't have a clear memory of which songs "caught on," that is, got airplay, were favorites at festivals, etc. I like to list that for groups if I can.

Which two to four songs would aging Jesus Freaks today still remember them by?

To this day it's probably the earliest stuff that the original Jesus Freaks would remember. "Ain't Gonna Fight It" "Black Gold Fever" and "Alarma" probably are the most well known from the late 70's and early 80's. "Darn Floor Big Bite" and "Doppleganger" weren't as popular but stand out as some of the earliest alternative rock in CCM.

Thanks. A couple of them sound familiar - It IS nice to see that the survivors have a working web page up that also promotes the Swirling Eddies, etc.

Have a great weekend,
